The maintenance of compound microscopes mainly includes the following aspects:

Moisture and dustproof: Moisture and dust are extremely harmful to microscopes. Moisture can cause mold on lenses and rust on mechanical parts, while dust can affect the passage of light and form stains, affecting the observation effect. Therefore, microscopes should be stored in a dry environment. It is recommended that the indoor humidity be maintained below 65%. It is best to use a dehumidifier to reduce the humidity. When the microscope is not in use, it should be covered with a dust cover to prevent the adhesion of dust and dirt.

 

Temperature control: In order to avoid thermal expansion and contraction causing the lens to debond and fall off, the room temperature of the microscope room is recommended to be maintained at 20~24℃. At the same time, the power supply voltage fluctuation should not exceed ±10% of the normal voltage. In areas with unstable voltage, a voltage stabilizer should be installed to protect the microscope system from damage.

 

Anti-corrosion and shockproof: Microscopes cannot be placed together with corrosive and highly volatile chemical reagents, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, strong alkali, etc. Shockproof during use and storage, avoid direct sunlight and air conditioning blowing directly on the microscope. The optical and mechanical systems of the microscope are precisely calibrated, and even slight vibrations or temperature changes may affect their performance.

Maintenance of the optical system: Usually, you can clean the lens with a clean brush or lens paper. If there are dirt, oil stains or fingerprints on the lens that are difficult to remove, you can use professional wiping paper or solvent to clean it. The eyepiece and condenser can be disassembled and wiped, but the objective lens has a complex structure and requires special instrument calibration to restore accuracy after disassembly. Therefore, it is strictly forbidden to disassemble the objective lens at will.

 

Maintenance of the mechanical part: The painted part of the microscope surface can be wiped with a cloth, but avoid using organic solvents such as alcohol and ether. If there is rust on the unpainted part, it can be wiped off with a cloth dipped in gasoline, and then the protective grease can be reapplied.

 

Daily use habits: After each use of the microscope, you should carefully check whether the objective lens is damaged and wipe it clean in time. It is crucial to use a dust cover, which can effectively protect the mechanical and physical state of the microscope and prevent the intrusion of dust and dirt.
